Whether you are interning this summer or doing temporary work, learn how to get the most out of your summer position by following our advice below:
- Network: Make connections with professionals that you think you could use as resources in your future job search. Well-established professionals can serve as references for you in the future, and they could help you find your dream job.
- Ask for feedback: Working between school semesters is useful for more reasons than just to put some extra money in your pocket. Use your summer position as an opportunity to learn and grow as a young professional. Ask your supervisors and coworkers what you can do to improve yourself and then put that feedback to use in your future positions.
- Leave on a positive note: Be sure to thank your summer employer for the opportunity to work with them and show your appreciation. Before leaving at the end of the summer, you should also provide your updated resume so they have it on file in case they have any openings in the future. Be sure to show your interest in possibly working for them permanently if an opportunity becomes available.
