Honesty is Always the Best Policy

When searching for a job, it is essential to be straightforward and honest in person and on paper.  For example, many people have gaps in their work history for a number of reasons.  Don’t hide them.  Explain gaps in your past rather than filling them with fabricated details.  Be precise with previous dates of employment and educational accomplishments.  Avoid hiding or inflating your history.  Exaggerating your background could lead to a question of integrity.  Employers always appreciate honesty.  You are who you are!

Tips for Making a Good First Impression

There are several situations in which job seekers need to make good, lasting first impressions.  It starts with your resume and cover letter.  Spend some quality time putting your resume and cover letter together, and have a friend review both to be sure there are no mistakes or grammatical errors.  Also, make sure that both your resume AND cover letter are relevant to each job you apply for before you send them out.  This may require you to make changes to both documents before applying for jobs.
