The Job Search

When searching for a new job, you must be proactive.  If you are still working, you need to be actively searching for jobs and sending out resumes in the evenings and on weekends.  If you have recently been laid off, it is a good idea to start searching right away, even if you received a severance package.  This shows that you are eager to work and will help to minimize gaps in your employment.

Career fairs are a great way to get your name out there.  There are often citywide career fairs and fairs at local universities.  Many employers attend job fairs in order to find good employees to hire, as well as to meet potential employees in person.  This is a good way to make a great first impression and get your resume out to a number of different companies in a short period of time.

When you are actively interviewing, it is easy to get wrapped up in one or two great looking jobs.  Be sure to keep your options open!  Continue sending out resumes and going on other interviews until you accept an offer.  You never know what could fall through, or what else could come up.
